Live Music Projections

When the modern classical label 130701 wanted to create an atmospheric presence at the Brighton Festival, Blackbeam Cinematic was brought in to work with projection and light. Using specialist screen gauze, we cast imagery that hovered in the space rather than sitting on a solid surface, giving the performance an ethereal, floating quality. The gauze allowed the visuals to appear and disappear with shifts in lighting, creating a subtle, breathable layer that supported the music without distracting from it.

The brilliant Swords and Eagles brought Blackbeam in to handle projection for one of their video shoots at the Drumsheds in London. Working on location, we used projected visuals to lift the space, add texture and give the camera more to work with. It’s a straightforward, effective approach for large urban environments — projection adds light, depth and atmosphere without the need for built sets or heavy rigging, letting the team move quickly and keep the look consistent.

For Laura Marling’s show at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank, Blackbeam built an immersive curved projection screen designed specifically for touring. The curve allowed the imagery to wrap subtly around the performance space, giving the visuals more presence without overwhelming the stage. We ran the system from a single‑video playback source for reliability on the road.
