Mobile projection advertising has been used to strong effect by commercial brands, organisations, and political parties alike, all of whom recognise the ability of large‑scale projections to spark conversation and draw attention.
For political parties and high‑profile figures, however, projections can cut both ways. The same tools used to amplify achievements are often repurposed by critics to highlight perceived shortcomings. Guerrilla projection interventions have a relatively short but vivid history of appearing unexpectedly in public spaces, creating moments of disruption.
One of the most widely recognised groups in this space is Led By Donkeys, known for its playful and provocative projection campaigns. Their work often involves displaying public statements made by political figures—scaled up and cast across urban architecture—creating striking visual juxtapositions that draw attention to the contrast between words and actions. Their campaigns have become a notable example of how projections can be used as a form of political commentary within the public realm.
Blackbeam campaign for the Green Party
Blackbeam Cinematic was commissioned by the Green Party to deliver a mobile projection campaign on the walls of the Bournemouth International Conference Centre during its 2025 Autumn Conference on England’s south coast.
Following the election of its new leader, Zack Polanski, the party was polling strongly and sought to channel that renewed momentum through a series of mobile projections across multiple locations. As well as generating material for future social media use, the projections were intended to act as a dynamic form of visual communication with key leadership figures and to reinforce core messaging throughout the conference period.
The Green Party’s design and conference teams were excellent collaborators, quickly understanding how a mobile projection campaign operates. Mobility is central to the process, but successful delivery depends on being able to adapt to conditions on the night—responding to weather, footfall, vantage points and the shifting opportunities that urban environments present.
Pre‑event planning focused on identifying viable projection sites around the venue and determining which assets would scale most effectively. One of the recurring challenges in projection work is that images which appear vibrant on a high‑definition screen do not always translate directly to architectural surfaces or complex urban textures. Selecting the right locations is therefore as important as selecting the right content, ensuring that the resulting photographs and video carry clarity, context and visual impact.
Green party mobile projection advertising images
For the Green Party conference projection bombs a short video, the Green Party logo and ‘totem’ images of key party members were selected. The totems (a message plus photo of a member from the Green party leadership team) were positioned around the conference, so the idea was to ‘take them outside’ and have the Green leadership team pose in front of their totem.

While certain target sites had already been identified, the mobility and pragmatism of the setup opened the door to something more ambitious: projecting the logo onto Bournemouth beach from the clifftop to create a set of dramatic publicity shots. The stormy night—turbulent seas below, the beach framed by the glow of Bournemouth Pier—produced a series of emphatic stills and video captures.
Some projection‑bombing campaigns are designed for high‑footfall locations, engineered to deliver instant impact and the potential for viral circulation. Increasingly, however, clients recognise the value of banking alternative imagery: visuals that are striking, unexpected, and that project an aura of scale and ambition. Blackbeam Cinematic has delivered numerous projection‑led advertising campaigns for commercial clients, organisations, and charities, each tailored to the narrative and the environment.
